Dear Ernst and David

I was so pleased to see  your post, thinking that not too many uk members could make it, I know that Bert indicated a desire, but i really did not wish to push him, as he has a very large distance to sail to get to Zeeland. I will after this post send a private message to Bert asking his plans.

I  wondered if i may crave an indulgence from you both?  My Yacht Club is having a sail in company to Ostende on Friday June 29th and  as i am missing the Trappist beer and moules i sort of have a wish to go with the fleet, but that would put me in ostende a few days earlier than planned!!!

Would both of you be ok with that? if so i would plan to leave Ostende and head to the Netherlands on monday 2nd.

At the moment i thought to take the route Vlissingen to Veere, then onward to Ernst's desired location.  I sort of guess i would be there on the 3rd or 4th, depends how the  Dutch scenery is, I could if you both wish continue toward David's base Dintelmond at the Volkerak,?? but await both of your advise.  Am i being a bit cheeky arriving early?  let me wait to hear your comments before i pledge lots of Dutch Gin as a bribe!

Let me know and sorry if i am being cheeky!!

all the best

John

Hi guys, so far no big trips planned yet, and if I have to go I can plan around it.

I'm flexible in my time.
July 7 is the official date the children-holidays start, but I can check in by car to where you are on 3 / 4 / 5 July.
After that I can take the Nantucket for a good sail to wherever you are to team up.

Hi David & Ernst

I have an update and 2 issues!

We plan to leave Brightlingsea on the 29th at 02.00 arriving at the Royal Ostende club Ostende around 18.00hrs
From there we plan to leave on monday to sail up to Vlissingen overnight there then to Middleburg, over night and beer drinking, then to Veere. After that  we can take advise from you and Ernst Previously it has been mentioned that we all meet up in Bergan Op Zoom?

Now for the 2 issues!

1) We have just heard that the port of Ostende will be closed on Friday 16.00 to 21.00 for an event.  That is just the time that we will enter. I don't fancy sitting outside the port in strong North east winds  for a number of hours. I am unsure if they are closing the port to yachts as well.  If you have any information on the closure i would be grateful!
2) on Wednesday 11th ( the day before your delivery voyage) i need to be in London for the day - Don't ask its complicated but it does not involve a women! -  so i will need to be at some port / harbour / marina close to a train station so that i can catch the train to Shiphol. I will be back from London at around 21.00 so hope to catch the train back to the boat!

As far as time. I understand that Ernst is the states until early July, so i think it is best for you both to tell me what date and port you would like to meet up?  We have all of July until we have to head back to the UK.

Afraid i have not heard anything from Bert so i guess he may not join us, however hopeful he will be reading the forum so will know where we are.

All the best

John

John, can you give me a link to that closure of Ostend harbour? I checked the websites of the 3 yachtclubs in Ostend and didn't find any info about that.

Grtz,
David

Just had contact with Royal yacht club Oostend: port will be closed from 16-20h Local time (UTC+2) but around 18.00 the work will be finished and harbour will be open again.

Grtz,

David
