Sorry , a typo was made on my part on the following post, i meant 2018 or 2019 not 2017!  i have corrected my typo!!!

Dear ALL Offshore yacht owners.

A small idea has formed ...... in partnership  with Ernst, in the Netherlands, we would like to  plan a rally for all of our vessels. the proposal is that we visit the wonderful area of Zeeland. This area looks a superb cruising base, and i can recommend the marina's in Holland more so the very low rates that they charge in comparison to the UK!

I would like to throw this open for debate and discussion to all forum members, with a possible date of July 2018 It may be that you would like to do the rally but need more time to prepare your yacht, thats fine! the date is not set in stone we could go in 2019!!
So..... let here from you, and if you feel that another area is better suited, well say so!

Ernst has volunteered to act as local pilot and guide, and has initially given some advise here:

Tried to find the Deltaguide for you, but digitally only available in German & Dutch.. Will see if I can scout an english version for you!
The Dutch version gives an idea with pictures & maps :

On the tourist agency's website is some info, they tried to make a little interactive:

ok... lets here from you then

All the best

John

For me July 2017 may be a bit short notice. Would the plan be that UK boats muster say Dover area and sail in flotilla or sail independent. Planned duration?

Yes you are correct 2017 is much too soon, we should plan 2018 or perhaps 2019. I admit to a typo on the original post, when chatting to Ernst we did think next year not this!!! Sorry!

A gathering before the crossing is most sensible, depending on wind direction Ramsgate is a good gathering point, then a sail up the French & belique coast.  When i cross i tend to go via Shotley / Ipswich, which gives me a good run straight to Ostende in around 16 to 18 hours. as far as time away is concerned, it is such a great place we should factor in a minimun of 3 weeks away from the UK, longer if people can do so, there is a VERY good train / ferry service from Holland if we get stuck!

soooo do you feel it a good plan?

all the best

John

Yes, up for that, sounds great. I know there are a few to the west of Poole so if they are going we could sail together to the muster port.

wonderful, lets keep an eye on the forum foe a few days to see if t here is more interest  after which we could start to formulate a plan.

Ernst would you be able to gather feedback for those in Holland and Germany? + find marina costs etc?  I wonder if Master Guido in Italy could make it!

all the best

john

Hi John,

Will contact Guido & Grazia for this. Sure it's good time to have the friend Mastermariner around!

Marinas are priced around euro 15 per night. Usually good facilities with clean toilets, laundry machines and shower cabins ashore and electricity connectors on the berths.
Except for the islands on Grevelingen Lake ( largest saltwater lake in Europe ), there is a flat fee of approx EUR 15,- for a 7 day card.

Cheers

I like the idea. If I have "Idris" in a fit state for such a trek by then I'll certainly have a go. Sounds like something to aim for.

Hi Steve

That will be superb, now that we have at least 3 uk boats interested, with the possibility of a few dutch / german yachts the plan may very well come to fruition! are you in favour of the uk yachts meeting up in Ramsgate?

Well, I'll be coming up from the Exe (Devon) so it'll be a fair trek wherever the meet is. Don't see that it'll make much difference from my point of view.

So I'm back in the UK clone clipper, found plenty of friendly drinking establishments and i think a rally there will be fantastic, as a bonus i passed a pilotage exemption certificate for the area. Why don't we have a few races while we are there, not that my new knowledge of tidal streaming will help me lol. Bert

Hi There!

Although this is my first post in the forum I've been reading a lot of stories around here. I have an Halcyon 23, twin keel version. Her homeport is Marina Kroeze near Amersfoort. I would like to join the rally in Zeeland somewhere in 2018 of 2019. I believe there is not a date set yet. I'll keep an eye on the forum for a date and place.
